Japan

Gosakudon | 1-5-31 Abenosuji, Abeno-ku Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, Japan
Tony drinks with some Hanshin Tigers fans. The restaurant serves sushi, but Tony is more interested in the smoking and $1 beers if the Tigers win. (NR2.1, 2006)

Pizza Ball House | 1-9-20, Maru Building B2F, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, Japan
Actual name, “Takanotetsu,” where Tony tries a cook-your-own takoyaki with bonito flakes. (NR2.1, 2006)

Jiyuken | 3-1-34 Namba Chuo-ku, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, Japan
A local classic that serves Western-style food, Tony tries a curried rice with egg that one of Japan’s most famous writers, Oda Sakunosuke, preferred. (NR2.1, 2006)*

Daruma | 1-6-4 Dotonbori Chuoku, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, Japan
Tony samples kushikatsu, or deep-fried skewers, and has the Seinfeldian mantra of not double-dipping reinforced. He tries beef, shrimp, and tomato skewers. (NR2.1, 2006)

Kani Doraku | 1-16-18, Dotombori, Chuo-ku, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, Japan
Tony stops by the original outpost of a famous seafood franchise, but opts for the grilled crab legs from the cart out front. (NR2.1, 2006)

Fukutarou | 2-3-17 Sennichimae Chuo-ku Osaka Osaka
Tony ends a night of intense eating with okonomiyaki, a savory pancake piled with whatever you like. They never mention the restaurant name, but the pictures of the inside of this one look dead-on. (NR2.1, 2006)

Variety Meat Dojo | 3-2-23 Ebisuhigashi, Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture
The show never says the name, but shows the front of the building, so I asked a friend who knows Japanese to translate. She came up with “Tripe Dojo,” but Trip Advisor has it under this name. Tony goes whole-hog at this place: tripe, raw liver, kidney, tongue, and heart. He definitely embraces “horumonyaki.” (NR2.1, 2006)

Koyoshi Sushi | 1-3-12 Shibata, Kita-ku, Osaka 530-0012, Osaka Prefecture
*CLOSED* Truly a mom and pop shop, Tony visited this spot every time he went to Osaka, and raved about the sushi. Otoro tuna, anago, hamo eel, unagi, and abalone are among his selection. Unfortunately, the couple running it have recently decided to close up shop. (NR2.1, 2006)
